Department of Horticulture

Horticulture aims at understanding and methods of plant propagation, production technology for vegetables, flower crops, spices and plantation crops, medicinal and aromatic crops and post harvest management of horticulture produce. 1996 and 2016-17, Post Graduate programme in M.Sc.(Agri.) and PhD in Horticulture was introduced respectively. Since then 66 M.Sc.and 2PhDstudents have completed degree programme specializing in the areas of Fruit Science, Vegetable Science, Ornamental Horticulture and Land Scaping, Medicinal and Aromatic Plants and Post Harvest Technology

10.Cold storage (1000 cu.ft)

Research is conducted using the equipments available in the department viz., BOD Incubator, Deep Freezer, Electric Tray Drier, Fruit and vegetable vacuum dehydrator, Pulper Machine, Hot Air Oven, Super crown corking machine, Poly bag sealing machine, Screw type juice extracting machine, Olympus microscope, Dissecting microscope, Juice Extractor, Digital Fruit Penetrometer(General Fruit), Digital Hand Refractometer, SPAD Chlorophyllmeter.

Ø Dr. M. G. Patil was awarded UNDP fellowship for undergoing M.Sc. (Horticulture).

Ø Dr. M. G. Patil was awarded CSIR fellowship for undergoing Ph. D (Horticulture).

Ø Dr. A. R. Kurubar was awarded Science and Technology (Govt. of China) fellowship to undergo training at China in 2002.

Ø Dr. A. R. Kurubar was awarded Nuffic fellowship to undergo training in the Netherlands during 2004.

Ø Dr. A. R. Kurubar was awarded Nuffic fellowship to undergo training in the Vietnam during 2009.
